What You Need to Know About Bridal Insurance

Consumers who are searching for bridal insurance or wedding insurance should be wary of the fact that price is not always a good indication of value.  Comparing prices works well when all items being compared are equal.  Insurance policies are very rarely ever equal.  When shopping for bridal insurance, consider the concept of value over the concept of price.  This does not mean that the consumer should automatically pick the policy that is highest in price because that still does not reflect the value of the policy.

To explain further,  lets compare prices of these five wedding insurance policies.

The group is broken down into two price groups.  There are three vendors that have policy offerings under 40 pounds, there are two vendors that have policy offerings that are quite a bit higher at 59 pounds and 65.62 pounds respectively.  If we were shopping by prize, then perhaps we would choose the policy that’s only 35 pounds.  This may not be the best policy for the price we are paying. If you glance throughout the comparison table below above.

What you may notice at first glance in the comparison table is that nothing here or rather very few things here are consistent in terms of coverage.  This is important because price is based on an equal comparison of goods or services.  To compare things equally the products must be the same.  To compare two gold bars that each weigh the same can be compared by price alone. The reason is that the price of gold is the same.

As we look at the prices of these five policies on this comparison table. The prices are not the same, nor are the services and coverage that are offered. This is exactly the reason why price is not a good tool to identify value when picking insurance policies. Bridal insurance, wedding insurance, house insurance, and auto coverage insurance, the lessons learned from this article can be applied to all of these.  Consumers can benefit by understanding and learning how value is not always impacted by price.

Finding Value

The highest price policy offering on the comparison table is from John Lewis Insurance Coverage in this price. It’s 65.62 pounds.  The next several paragraphs are going to discuss why this is the best policy is being offered to the consumer.

The insurance comparison table can be broken down into two categories.  The first category can be loosely defines as cover offerings that are within your control and have the maximum capitation amounts assigned to them.  The second group of coverage can be loosely defines as being outside of your control, and having no capitation, if a lawsuit or loss should occur.

Scanning the grid, cover offerings such as wedding attire, presents, rings, cake, flowers, photo/video, and transport, are all offered within this policy, but each have the limits on how much will be reimbursed from the insurance company.  Further, each of these cover areas are typically reimbursed by receipts. This means that despite the fact that wedding attire is insured for 5000 pounds. If the dress and the grooms tux have a grand total of 2000 pounds, then that is what you will be reimbursed.  Another consideration when discussing these items, is how an insurance cover is in relationship to comparison of the cancellation cover.  It’s unlikely that if your cancellation coverage is 10,000 pounds that the dress and tux are going to have the combined value of 5000 pounds.  This is where is considered to be “padding” of an insurance policy.  The policy offers a low price with a lot of showy cover values that are overinflated.

As you set your budget for the wedding, consider that bridal insurance is sold based on the cancellation value of the policy.  The listings with in each cancellation coverage are presets.  So when you find an insurance coverage that fits your needs, you can pretty much set the rest of your budget accordingly to how these preset covers work within your policy.

The second set of values that we discuss are outside of your control and have no capitation are cover areas such as legal expense, public liability, and even failure of suppliers.  These items add value to your policy, and as such are okay to be inflated.  This is because if somebody were to sue you and you had to use either the legal expense or your public liability cover within this policy than more coverage is better. This is because the insurance company is not going to be the party that sets the reimbursement.  The reimbursement most likely will come from a court of law, and as such, the outcome is unpredictable.  Having extra insurance is an area where the outcome is unpredictable, adds value your policy.

If we go back to we compare the information in the table. Consumers should be able to see that the John Lewis insurance cover is by far the best value for the pounds being spent.  To recap consider wedding attire.  John Lewis insurance offers a wedding attire cover for 2500 pounds, which is one quarter of the total cancellation cover.

The remaining items that fall within that group are also appropriately priced in comparison to the other policies. Of the three items that we discussed which add value to your policy, failure of suppliers, legal expenses and public liability all show a marked increase in coverage with the John Lewis policy.  This can be interpreted as a policy that adds value for every single pound that is spent on.  The value of that policy is equal to or exceeds the 65.62 pounds that it would cost.  This makes the John Lewis insurance cover policy the best deal for the money spent.  We hope that this article on how to choose bridal insurance has been helpful to you.
